Widget Mania - For Web AppBuilder
Esri’s Web AppBuilder has opened the door to rapidly deploy web applications. Out of the box Esri supplies a wide variety of widgets that meet nearly 95% of most organizations need. However, we have noticed that custom widgets are sometimes needed to get to the 100% solutions for our clients. This session will focus on the custom widgets we have created for our clients such as US EPA and others. We will demonstrate a number of our widgets and show how the clients have used them to make data more accessible for their web and mobile users of the Web AppBuilder.

Python User Interfaces
The County Cartographers in the Polk County Assessor’s office maintain the official Taxmaps that meet mapping standards as defined by the Oregon Department of Revenue. Map maintenance requires that processing of land transactions (deeds, plats, etc.) are completed consistently and an official record of the transaction is kept. Polk County has recently upgraded workflows and tools to support this process using a combination of several Python based API’s including ArcPpy, tkInter, pandas, and datetime. The scripts are run from Arc Catalog and ArcMap. This presentation will review the tools developed, pros and cons and discuss current plans for migration to ArcPro.

Combining Disparate Datasets to Get the Data You Need
Do you ever struggle to find the exact GIS data that you want?  Do you get frustrated that available datasets aren’t granular enough or are redacted in a way that isn’t actionable?  We live in the Big Data revolution, so why should we give up if we don’t find the exact GIS data that we are looking for?  In this session, we will explore the idea that to get the GIS data you want, one dataset, you may need to employ and combine multiple datasets.  To demonstrate this, we have a case study on enhancing international wealth and demographic data, although this approach can apply to any GIS dataset and to any GIS industry.  Case Study - Enhancing International Wealth and Demographic Data: For many reasons, US data about demographics is easy to find, even on a micro-geographic basis, but in many other countries around the world, finding micro-geographic data about demographics is hard. In the US, we are fortunate to have the Census Department, which offers extensive data about things like the number of people of various age groups. This data is available on a micro-geographic basis, which technically is called a “block group” – polygons containing roughly 1,500 people. In markets outside the US, getting demographic data totally depends on the country. In China, demographic information only comes in very large geographies, including on average 500,000 people. That means that US data is, on average, over 30x more granular than Chinese demographic data! Wealth data in China is essentially non-existent on anything but a city-wide basis. So how do you get the data you want? In this session, attendees will learn the principles we use to turn big piles of data into micro-geographic information: examples of data that enhance demographics and wealth include road networks, urban greenery data, real estate data and building volume data. Examples of principles include materiality, source quality, structured/unstructured data and strategic intent. The moral of the story we are telling is that the quality of a single dataset can almost always be enhanced. So, just because the data that you want doesn’t exist, doesn’t mean that you can’t estimate it.

Data Management Tool
Tracking your GIS data assets as a GIS person can be a convoluted process. Data is being viewed and utilized through many different applications, such as web maps, mobile maps, and desktop applications. Being able to identify all the data layers supporting an ArcGIS Online Web App and then tracing that back to the source can be a valuable thing to know. Also when you are doing data updates and need to know what web/mobile maps this data update will effect can be very important. Innovate developed a custom application called the Data Management Tool (DMT) to improve the quality, consistency, and transparency of US EPA Region 9 geospatial resources. As background, the US EPA Region 9 utilizes a wide range of Esri products in multiple internal, sensitive, and public environments. Maintaining an up to date and accurate inventory of data in enterprise geodatabases, ArcGIS Server services, and ArcGIS Online items is both arduous and complex. Further, a historical focus on project-centric operations tended to silo data by project area or support division, often resulting in data and metadata replication. While EPA Region 9 has deployed previous data management systems, their faults were often in the reliance of manual inventory updates and user input. The DMT application provides a searchable, sortable, user-friendly interface that not only relates all of the content but checks for the existence of and completeness of related documentation, including hosting environment, metadata, unique identifiers, update cycles, and sharing settings. The application serves as a live, single point of entry for all analysts to find resources, and immediately identify their location, accuracy, and relevance. The new DMT leverages the backends of enterprise geodatabases in Microsoft SQL Server, ArcGIS for Server, and the ArcGIS Online API to harvest and relate features in all three Esri products. The system is deployed in each environment and automatically harvests items in the enterprise geodatabases and those related to map service layers, including the metadata for all ArcGIS Online items to identify if any contain rest services.

Interior Mapping
Innovate! Inc. developed a web-based Floor Plan application tool for US EPA Region 9 that provides access to information about Region 9 people, places, and resources. It displays the current list of all Region 9 employees, including contractors, grantees, volunteers (if any), and other EPA and federal agency staff stationed in R9. It also provides detailed floor plans for each space at EPA R9 Headquarters, other regional offices and place-based individuals. There are many layers that can be turned on that offer details of resources and emergency information for the building. The application was built using Esri JavaScript API and ArcServer and integrates AutoCAD floor plan data. Innovate was honored with a Federal Small Business Specialty (FSBS) Award during the Esri FedGIS Conference. Innovate! was named Esri’s 2018 Innovation Partner for our innovative usage of Esri technology in support of our client’s operations (https://www.innovateteam.com/innovate-inc-honored-at-esri-fedgis-confere...).

Municipalities are quickly migrating to using information and communication technologies to increase operational efficiency, share information with the public and improve both the quality of government services and citizen welfare. GPS/AVL Telematics uses M2M (machine 2 machine) and telematics technologies to provide a constant stream of information and metrics regarding your field crews activities and accomplishments which helps support an organizations mobile Operations and serves to feed near real time data updates to your corporate information systems such as Enterprise Asset Management and GIS.
Government agencies now have a way of automatically completing work orders in their asset management system using telematics. We will review various ways agencies can populate business data in systems they use every day with work being done by snow plows and spreaders. We will review how we connect to sensors and to onboard controllers to do this. The result is the enterprise benefiting from telematics – without learning a new system. The key benefit is current, up to date data in mission critical business systems. Specific workflows used by customers with ArcGIS, Lucity, Cityworks and custom systems will be presented.
